This is basically the Fountain Hat but without all the huge needles. Called ground flower because the decreases reminded me of the way the fireworks of the same name spin into elongated petal shapes.
Ground Flower Hat
- Yarn: 2 skeins Knit Picks Palette
- Needles: US 5 and US 7 circs.
- Gauge: 4.5 sts/in on largest needles (anywhere around this gauge will work)
With yarn held doubled, cast on 88 stitches on US 5 needles. Join for working in the round. Work in 1×1 ribbing (*k1, p1*) until hat measures 1.5″ from cast on edge. Switch to larger needles and work one increase row as follows: *k2, m1*, repeat to end. Work in stockinette stitch (knitting every round) until hat measures 6″ from increase row. Work decreases as follows:
- *k2, k2tog* for one row
- knit 4 rows plain
- *k2, k2tog* until 10 stitches remain
Break yarn, thread through remaining stitches and pull tight. Weave in ends. Wear with even more aplomb.

Hi!
I love this pattern …I would like to do it in a sock yarn ..red white and blue..if my head is the size of a large child do you think it would work? and if not any suggestions on how to alter this pattern to fit sock yarn! I have pallette but would prefer to use the yarn I have bought…
Thanks!
Gigi…
