I am Phoe (pronounced ‘fee’) which is short for Phoenix.
I have fibromyalgia, Sjögren’s syndrome and PCOS. I am quite housebound, use a cane and sometimes a wheelchair. I count spoons daily. I am not always happy, I’m not always sad. I laugh at myself an awful lot because if I didn’t, I might just cry.
I’m 30. But everyone promises me that 30 isn’t so bad. Indeed, it’s got to be better than my 20s.
I am a writer. I write short stories and my life’s work, a rich and vast (ok, massively huge more like) world and the characters who inhabit it. I write fantasy, lit fic, reworked myth and horror. I’m currently working on a collection of stories about LA. Sometimes I write silly stuff that I love anyway.
I am also an aspiring photographer. You can see my photos (such as they are) on Flickr.
The last books I read included Desert Notes & River Notes by Barry Lopez, The Search for Superstrings, Symmetry and The Theory of Everything by John Gribbin and Stardust by Neil Gaiman. I have finite book shelf space at the moment but a wishlist that’s a mile long.
I am mildly obsessed with Alice in Wonderland, the Greek Underworld and the myth of Persephone. I can speak Italian (not very well, mind you) and love to sing.
I am a geek and quite proud of it. I love math and my two favorite scientific ideas are Schrodinger’s Cat and the time travel paradox. When I’m feeling up to it, I play Sims 2 and spend most of the time getting everyone turned into vampires and werewolves, avoiding the zombies when I can.
I have an iPod named Penelope (after Lady Penelope) which I use daily. I have playlists for each character I write and many stories. I listen to podcasts and Librivox instead of watching tv. I also have a varied taste in music running from Death Cab For Cutie, Duran Duran, Bollywood music, Clannad and Cake.
I don’t own a tv but do watch some shows on dvd. Namely Bewitched, The Munsters and Thunderbirds. If it was made before 1970, I’m pretty much gonna love it. My current favorite movie is How To Marry A Millionaire and The Hours. It just depends on my mood at the time. I also love old cartoons like Scooby Doo and the Groovie Goolies.
I’m a sports fan and watch (and love) both American football and football (soccer). I’m a long time 49er fan and have been a Manchester United fan for 8 years. I follow Ruud van Nistelrooy with extreme interest (read: I love Ruud) and this year, I’m rooting for Sunderland.
I’m one of the many fans Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab. I’m not obsessed, just quite keen. I save my obsession for yarn. I have a penchant for 100% superwash merino sock yarn and knitting things for other people.
I’m an American, Californian by birth. I live in Southern England. I am married and spend a lot of time wishing we lived elsewhere.
I love to cook, I would have a serious shoe problem if my feet weren’t so big. I get homesick most for the beaches and I miss the Pacific more than I can rightly articulate.
I don’t think it’s possible to have too much yarn. Finite space, yes. But too much yarn? Never.
Fiber Allergies: mohair, angora, blue faced leicester, baby alpaca, cashmere. Basically, if it’s hairy, it’s gonna make me itch.
Yes, I have a wishlist. It’s here. (Amazon wishlist here.)

Passenger Seat Designs is the name under which I produce graphic designs. I studied graphic design at university but do not have a formal degree stating such. It’s mainly just something I like to do.
